Rhode Island School of Design Project

The Apparel Design and Textile departments at Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) are conducting a collaborative project in partnership with the Italian Trade Commission (ITC) an nearly 20 Italian fabric and yarn mills.


The project is a semester-long sponsored studio for Apparel and Textiles seniors and graduate students, and 10 students from each department have paired up in teams of two to design and create small collections under the project’s guiding theme: Global Travel.


Representatives from the ITC and the RISD course instructors traveled to Milan and the Como region of Italy in July to meet with the mills and spinners at their headquarters, showrooms and factories to select fabrics and yarns. The chosen materials were sourced with the goals of providing a great range that would inspire the 10 teams and allow them to fulfill their creative visions.


The results of the project will be presented and celebrated at events at the RISD Museum of Art in providence and in New York in the early spring of 2008.

The Italian Trade Commission-IT3C is delighted to announce Italian-born actress, model and entrepreneur Isabella Rossellini as the first-ever recipient of the Life in I style Icon Award. The award was presented in recognition of Ms. Rossellini’s important personal contribution to the promotion of Italian style throughout her career.

The Life in I style Icon Award, exclusively made by highly-respected Italian jewelry company Faraone Mennella, was presented to Ms. Rossellini in person by the Ambassador Umberto Vattani, President of the Italian Trade Commission-ICE, during a cocktail event hosted last 23rd of January by Hearst Magazines titles Esquire, Harper’s BAZAAR and Town&Country to officially launch the new ‘Made In Italy’ advertising campaign in which Ms. Rossellini appears.

The Award was exclusively designed and handcrafted by award winning Italian jewelry designers Roberto Faraone Mennella and Amedeo Scognamiglio of Faraone Mennella in their Manhattan studio. The design duo chose sensual lines and simple shapes to symbolize the timeless sophistication of the Italian lifestyle. Interlocking oval links, cast in pure silver, are reminiscent of the elegant Italian design heritage of the past decades.
