MRket NY Review

January 22nd marked a busy day for fashion houses as hundreds of people flocked to look at the wares and make some purchases. Not only were American staples Vineyard Vines, Michael Kors and Lauren by Ralph Lauren present but so were thirty-five beautiful and unique Italian labels with the good news being a lot of their apparel and accessories do retail in the New York tri-state area. One of my personal favorites was the selection of Borsalino hats at the table. All custom-made for clients, the prices can skyrocket for up to $1,200. Pricey for a hat but luxury products like this cannot be bought in stores. And if they are bought in stores, I can almost guarantee they do not come with the quality or history of Borsalino. Beaver and deer hats will be perfect with a dapper charcoal-gray suit for the fall while the straw hats – the sartorial smash hit of resort wear – will look incredible on a beach in the South of France.

If you’re looking for the perfect pajamas, Villa Delmitia is the label to lust for. Retailing in Manhattan at Bergdorf Goodman and Barneys, the velvet robes and the crimson quilted satin stunner are amazing and quite sumptuous. I called it an Italian Hugh Heffner and wanted a satin robe in every color.

Italian label for all things funky Yashi Yamamuri has a plethora of slim-fit viscose t-shirts equal parts slinky and ostentatious. Definitely geared for a younger clientele, the shirts ranged from geometric graphic prints to colorful vibrant patterns which were a visual feast for the eye albeit a little over-the-top. The line also has some sweaters that were far more toned-down than the shirts and could even be work with some leather jackets and tailored trousers for a business casual look. The line retails at 347 West Broadway if anyone wants to snap up the outré designs.

The best shoes at the tradeshow were Di Bianco – retailing at Peter Elliott in New York. The shoes, with a range of designs featuring ombre burnishings and unique reverse stitching were all beautiful and handcrafted. Thirty-something professionals will wear them with a dapper suit and young ones will rock the boots with a pair of skinny jeans. Either way, the shoes do appeal to any alpha male no matter the age.

If you’re looking for something to wear the shoes with, Marcoliani Milano has pima socks that are cozy and colorful. And what’s not to love about a little pop of color peeking out from a brogue in the spring? Spring is a little too far away so for the time being the older gents should invest in Gimo’s incredible selection of impeccable coats in shearling and leather. Younger men would die for Eurotex super hip selection of outerwear with leather sleeves and fur hoods. The coats at Moorer- which sell at Bloomingdale’s - are very minimalist but the simplicity will work and last long as trends come and go. A Moorer jacket seems to be the safest bet. And last but not least, the suit. Luigi Bianchi Mantova with its brother company LBM 1991, have some incredible tweed and classic suits for men of all ages. And the subtle detailing in the buttons is incredible and unique. The suits sell primarily in Italy but can be snapped up for a fraction of the price on Gilt Man. And, let’s be honest, who doesn’t love a sale?
