An Italian Winter, Part 2

Posted to Footwear , Jewelry , Apparel , Accessories on 12/22/2011

Italian women have long been regarded as some of the most fashionable creatures. And with Anna Dello Russo, Giovanna Battaglia and the sisters Sozzani snapped in the most fabulous outfits at fashion parties on the international scene, Italy is well represented. And what is not to love? The sultry Dolce & Gabbana, the vixen-like styles at Versace, the printed wonders at Etro, glitzy Gucci ensembles – and this is just what happens on the runway. Off the runway, is a whole other style story with scores of women seamlessly balancing high fashion, highly-covetable goods with the discreet, understated and class Italian women are known for. A-line skirts in sumptuous fabrics, Hermes and other perfectly-printed silk scarves, gold jewelry and box bags are the foundations for the modern women in Italy. But if the runways are any indicator of what is to come, it is time to shake things up for winter! First, invest in a three-quarter length coat in a sorbet shade. Pastel tones were everywhere Italian Fashion Week – Prada, Versace, Etro – and a car coat in a mellow yellow or pretty turquoise will be a perfect way to squeeze a pop of color into a somber wardrobe. Plus, as this is no puffy bomber, the coat will look great day and night – pair it with a pinstripe suit and heels for work and, at night, with a slinky dress and Prada heels. The next step for a fresh new winter is snapping up a fabulous fur and pairing it with gold jewelry and some eye-popping prints a-la Etro paisley or vintage Hermes. If fur isn’t quite your style or within your code of ethics, consider faux fur. H&M has a faux-fur vest that will fit the bill and isn’t real! Next, for accessorizing, consider buying a statement heel. Italian wardrobes often gravitate toward functional yet fabulous but the statement heel has the power to instantly transform this sentiment into the reverse -  fabulous yet functional. Prada’s geometric racecar heels were indubitably the best shoes of the season and will look perfect with ANYTHING.
