The Italian Trade Commission Collection

This past September, the Academy of Art University’s School of Fashion presented the Italian Trade Commission Collection at S/S 2012 Fashion Week in NYC. The Italian Trade Commission (ITC) Collection spring runway show – a collaborative effort pairing seven MFA Fashion Design students and a textile design student from the Academy of Art University (AAU) with the ITC. ITC arranged for an instructor from the School of Fashion to select fine fabrics from famed Italian mills in Esthethia including G.B. Conte (Marzotto Group), R. Allegri & F.Lli S.r.l, Seterie Argenti S.p.A., Lanificio SubalpinoS.r.l, Teseo S.r.l. and Groupo Ratti S.p.A., as well as trims from Cadica Group S.p.A. andStile Universal S.r.l. The show was a stellar and beautiful vision of classic Italian infused with street mentality and technological modernity. Using fine fabrics such as Tropical Melange Wool and Liquid Satin Back Crepe, the material seemed rich and luxurious. The beginning exits are perfect looks for the high-tech working woman who likes to strut to the bar after hours but also knows how to converse economics in a meeting. The closing gowns were beautiful with perfect pleating and contrasting fabrics making for interesting and guaranteed attention-grabbers. The menswear was particularly innovative as a certain ruby-red suit has been floating around my head for quite some time. The eight students who worked on this collection were Ginie Huang, Zenia Kim, Kate Lee, Jessie Jie Liu, Iglika Vasileva Matthews, Tanja Milutinovic, Ilana Dora Siegelman and Cecilia Q. Xie. Promising work from future talent and a successful collection for the Italian Trade Commission. See images of the collection on the Italian Trade Commission’s website and view the video of the show on the Academy of Art University’s website.
